Have you ever hit send and spotted the typo one second later? Spelling mistakes are tiny, but a reader notices them first. A misspelled surname, a stray "form" where you meant "from", and the whole thing looks rushed.

Reading your own work back is the worst way to catch these. Your brain knows what the sentence should say, so it quietly repairs the word on the page. That is why a typo survives four read throughs, then jumps out the moment someone else opens the file.

What is AI Spelling Checker?

The AI Spelling Checker is a dedicated spell checking workspace on AIToolsay. You paste text into one box, set a few options, and get it back corrected. Every setting in the panel is about spelling: which errors to hunt, which national spelling to enforce, and which dictionary to trust.

The difference from the red squiggly line in your word processor is context. A basic checker matches each word against a list, so if the word exists, it stays. That is why "their" survives where you needed "there", and why "manger" sails through when you meant "manager". This tool reads the sentence around the word, so it can tell you a real word is the wrong real word. It works on anything you paste: an email, an essay, an application, a chapter.

Why Use AI Spelling Checker?

Because spelling is the cheapest kind of credibility to lose. Nobody rejects a proposal purely for a typo, but every typo makes the next paragraph less convincing. Here is what changes when you run the text through the tool instead of squinting at it.

The momentChecking by eyeUsing AI Spelling Checker
A cover letterYou reread it three times and still miss the company namePut the company name in the notes field, then check the rest
A UK client, a US keyboard"Organize" and "organise" get mixed in one fileSet Spelling Standard to UK English and it lands on one convention
A clinical reportDrug names look wrong to a general dictionaryDictionary Mode set to Medical stops correct terms being flagged
A rushed editYou cannot tell what changed after pasting the fix backOutput Style set to List of Corrections shows every change

A second opinion helps too. When you have rewritten a sentence six times, you stop seeing it. The AI Spelling Checker has no memory of your earlier drafts, so it reads what is there.

Note This tool is aimed at spelling, not style. It will not restructure your argument or shorten your sentences, and that is deliberate. A pass that quietly rewrites your voice is worse than no pass at all.

Who Should Use It?

Anyone who publishes text that other people read. In practice, these groups get the most out of it:

  • Students finishing essays and reflections, where a marker notices spelling before content.
  • Job seekers checking a CV and cover letter, where one wrong company name ends an application.
  • Non native English writers who are fine with grammar but get caught by homophones.
  • Small business owners writing their own product pages without an editor to hand.
  • Support teams replying at volume, where speed causes doubled words and dropped letters.

In a specialist field this tool beats a generic checker, and Dictionary Mode is why.

How Does AI Spelling Checker Work?

The AI Spelling Checker runs on the same working surface as every other tool here. Learn this screen once and you know them all.

  1. Prompt input area. One large box at the top. The placeholder reads "Paste the text you want checked and improved…", which is exactly what you do. Paste the whole passage, not a summary.
  2. AI model selector. Choose the engine before you generate. The list covers MSB AI, OpenAI ChatGPT, Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude AI, xAI Grok AI, DeepSeek, Qwen, Meta AI, NVIDIA AI, OpenRouter AI and MiniMax. If a result feels too eager or too cautious, switch and run it again.
  3. Advanced options accordion. Collapsed until you open it. Inside are the ten settings that shape the check, from Spelling Scope down to the notes box.
  4. Generate button. Sends your text, model and settings through the prompt engineering layer, the instructions that turn your options into a precise request.
  5. Output card. The corrected text appears below the button with a live word count in the footer, so you can see whether the length moved.
  6. Export row. Download the result as DOC, TXT or HTML. On the result itself you get copy, listen, reuse, download and open in full view. Reuse pushes the result back into the prompt box for a second pass.
  7. Activity history panel. Earlier generations from the session sit below the result. Open one and it loads back into the card, which is how you compare a strict run against a gentle one.

Pro tip Run the same paragraph through two models and compare them in the activity history. Where both agree, the fix is safe. Where they disagree, read that sentence yourself.

Key Features

Context aware checking

Real words in the wrong place get caught, not just words missing from a dictionary. Homophones are judged by meaning.

Six English standards

US, UK, Canadian, Australian, International and Indian English. Pick one and the document lands on a single convention.

Specialist dictionaries

Academic, Business, Technical, Medical, Legal and Creative/Literary modes stop correct field terms being flagged as errors.

Six output styles

Clean corrected text, tracked changes, a list of corrections, corrections with explanations, a side by side view, or errors highlighted.

Export and reuse

Send the result out as DOC, TXT or HTML, copy it, listen to it read aloud, or push it back for another pass.

Advanced Options Guide

Open the accordion and you get ten controls. Set the four dropdowns, glance at the toggles, and you are ready. Here is what each one does.

OptionWhat it controlsWhen to change itSuggested starting point
Spelling Scope Which errors are hunted: Basic Typos, Common Misspellings, Homophones/Confusables, Proper Nouns & Names, Technical Terms, Repeated Words, Capitalization, All Spelling Issues. Narrow it when only one fault type matters, such as names in a contract. All Spelling Issues, so the first pass shows everything.
Spelling Standard The convention applied across the text: US, UK, Canadian, Australian, International or Indian English. Match the reader, not the writer. A UK writer submitting to a US journal picks US English. Whichever the reader uses. For a mixed audience, International English.
Output Style The shape of the result: Clean Corrected Text, Tracked Changes, List of Corrections, Corrections + Explanations, Side-by-Side or Highlighted Errors Only. Pick Corrections + Explanations when you want the rule, not just the fix. List of Corrections, so you see every change before accepting it.
Dictionary Mode Which vocabulary counts as correct: General, Academic, Business, Technical, Medical, Legal, Creative/Literary, Custom Word List. Change it when your field uses words a general dictionary rejects. General for everyday text, Medical or Legal once jargon appears.
Fix Spelling Whether errors are corrected or only reported. Off when you want a report and will make every edit yourself. On, so the result is usable text.
Ignore Proper Nouns Whether names of people, brands and places are left untouched. Off when you suspect a name is genuinely misspelled. On, because unusual names are what a checker gets wrong most.
Preserve Formatting Whether line breaks, spacing and bullet markers survive the correction. Off if you pasted messy text and want clean prose back. On, especially for lists and anything going back into a document.
Flag Uncertain Words Whether unsure calls are marked instead of silently changed. Off when you want a finished document with no markers. On for a first pass. Flagged words are where your judgement is needed.
Detection Sensitivity A slider from 1 to 10 for strictness. Low catches clear errors. High questions anything unusual. Raise it for formal work, lower it for dialogue or deliberate misspellings. 6, strict enough for real typos without arguing with every brand name.
Additional Spelling Notes A free text box, up to 1,000 characters, for names, terms and rules to respect. Use it whenever the text holds a name no dictionary has seen. Something concrete: "Keep Larkfield Clinic exactly as written."

Watch out Ignore Proper Nouns and the notes box do different jobs. The toggle leaves all names alone, including the ones you spelled wrong. The notes box says which exact spelling is right. If a client name has to be perfect, type it into the notes.

Example Inputs

Meet Priya, a nursing student in Manchester with a placement reflection due tomorrow. It is full of clinical terms, a ward name and her supervisor's surname. She has read it so often that the words have stopped meaning anything. Here is what she pastes in.

During my placement on Elmswood ward I supported patients recieving
post operative care. My supervisor, Sister Adaeze Nwankwo, showed me
how to record fluid balence and how to to escalate concerns to the the
nurse in charge. Clear documentation effects patient safety.

Before generating, she opens the accordion and sets:

  • ✅ Spelling Scope: All Spelling Issues
  • ✅ Spelling Standard: UK English
  • ✅ Output Style: Corrections + Explanations
  • ✅ Dictionary Mode: Medical
  • ✅ Ignore Proper Nouns: on
  • ✅ Detection Sensitivity: 7
  • ✅ Notes: "Keep Elmswood ward and Adaeze Nwankwo exactly as written."

Model chosen: Google Gemini. She presses Generate, and the output card returns the corrections list:

1. recieving  =>  receiving   (i before e rule)
2. balence    =>  balance     (misspelling)
3. to to => to (repeated word)
4. the the => the (repeated word)
5. effects => affects (confusable: verb needed)
...

Notice two things. "Elmswood" and "Nwankwo" were left alone, because the toggle and the notes both protected them. And "effects" was caught even though it is a real, correctly spelled word, because the sentence needed the verb.

Nice result Priya then hits Reuse, switches Output Style to Clean Corrected Text and generates again. Second run, the finished paragraph is ready to paste back into her document.

Comparison Table

Spelling is one layer of proofing, so it helps to know where this tool stops. Once the spelling is clean, run the same text through the AI Grammar Checker for tense, agreement and sentence structure.

Problem in your textAI Spelling CheckerGrammar checkingPunctuation checking
recieve instead of receiveYesSometimesNo
their instead of thereYesSometimesNo
organise mixed with organizeYesNoNo
Wrong verb tenseNoYesNo
Missing comma or apostropheNoSometimesYes

The last row is worth planning for. Commas and apostrophes need their own pass, which is what the AI Punctuation Checker is for.

What works well

  • Catches real words used in the wrong place, which a dictionary check cannot do.
  • One setting puts a whole document on a single English standard.
  • Specialist dictionaries stop correct jargon being flagged.
  • The corrections list means you never accept a change blind.
  • Free to use, with no account needed.

What to watch for

  • Invented words and slang can be corrected away unless you protect them in the notes box.
  • Very long documents are better checked in sections.
  • It checks spelling, not facts. A correctly spelled wrong figure stays wrong.
  • With Preserve Formatting off, spacing and bullet markers may come back different.

Honest limitation When two real words both fit a sentence, no checker can be sure which one you meant. Raising Detection Sensitivity catches more of these, but it questions more words that were fine. Read the flagged items yourself, which is what Flag Uncertain Words is for.

AIToolsay is a free AI tools platform built on one idea. Each writing job gets a dedicated workspace instead of one chat box wearing different names. Every tool is free and needs no account, and each carries its own options panel and its own prompt engineering. You also choose which engine runs your text. The list runs from MSB AI and OpenAI ChatGPT to Google Gemini, Anthropic Claude AI, xAI Grok AI, DeepSeek, Qwen, Meta AI, NVIDIA AI, OpenRouter AI and MiniMax. You can switch on any generation. Alongside the tools sit an AI directory, an AI models directory, courses, guides and news. The AIToolsay homepage holds the rest of the writing library, including the passes that follow a spelling check.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AI Spelling Checker free to use?

Yes. It is free, and no account is needed. Paste your text, set the options and generate.

How is this different from the spell check in my word processor?

A word processor matches each word against a dictionary, and if the word exists it passes. The AI Spelling Checker reads the sentence around the word, so it catches real words in the wrong place, such as "form" for "from".

Can it handle British and American spelling?

Yes. Set Spelling Standard to US, UK, Canadian, Australian, International or Indian English, and the whole text lands on that one convention.

Will it change technical or medical terms it does not recognise?

Not if Dictionary Mode matches your field. Medical, Legal, Technical, Academic and Business modes treat field vocabulary as correct. List anything unusual in Additional Spelling Notes.

How do I stop it changing names?

Switch Ignore Proper Nouns on. For names that must appear in one exact form, also type them into Additional Spelling Notes.

Does it fix grammar and punctuation too?

Only where the fault is a spelling one, such as a repeated word or a missing capital. Tense, agreement and comma placement are separate jobs, so run a grammar pass afterwards.

Can I see exactly what was changed?

Yes. Set Output Style to List of Corrections, Tracked Changes, Corrections + Explanations or Side-by-Side. Each shows the edits instead of handing back text with no record of what moved.

Spelling errors are the easiest problem in writing to fix. They are also the easiest to keep missing, because your own eyes are the wrong tool for the job. Paste the text, pick your standard, set the sensitivity, and read the corrections list.

So open the AI Spelling Checker, drop in whatever you are about to send, and see what your eyes skipped. Thanks for reading this far, and I hope these settings save you a red faced correction email.
