What is an AI model?

An AI model is a trained system that takes an input — text, an image, audio, code — and returns a useful output. Large language models like GPT-4o power chatbots; image models like Stable Diffusion render pictures from prompts; embedding models turn text into numbers so search can understand meaning.

How do I pick the right AI model?

Start with the task (chat, code, vision, embeddings). Filter by context length if you need long inputs, and by pricing to match your budget. Sort by "Highest Rated" to see what real users prefer, then compare the top two on the model detail pages.

What does "context length" mean?

The maximum amount of text the model can look at in one call, measured in tokens. 32K is roughly 24,000 words; 128K is 96,000; 1M+ models can read a whole book at once. If you send more than the limit, the model forgets the earliest parts.

Are the ratings and reviews real?

Yes. Every rating comes from a signed-in user who has used the model. We remove reviews that break our community rules, but we do not edit them for tone.

Do you list free AI models?

Yes. Use the Pricing filter to show only Free or Freemium models. Open-source models you can self-host are marked in the tags.

How often is the directory updated?

Every day. New releases are added within 48 hours; existing entries are refreshed as companies update prices, context windows or capabilities.
